Ad industry HTTPS report featured in Business Insider, Motherboard

Our recent report on the state of the internet advertising industry’s adoption of the HTTPS secure data transmission protocol was featured in two media reports earlier this week. Open Effect’s Executive Director, Andrew Hilts was quoted in the reports, describing why HTTPS is important, and the important role advertisers play in enabling others to secure their websites.

Business Insider reported on the study’s findings, which Motherboard also did. However, Motherboard also got the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) on the record regarding our findings. The IAB explained the background behind its claim that 80% of its members support HTTPS, and acknowledged that much work was still needed to be done in securing the industry.
